Advert: Successful York Artists at Festival of Brass

York LogoSell-out performance from York performing band, Black Dyke, with Richard Marshall and David Thornton at the RNCM Festival of Brass in Manchester.

Once again, the RNCM Festival of Brass at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester was a great success.

Sold out

Black Dyke performed at the sold-out opening concert with their principals, both York Artists and RNCM Tutors, Richard Marshall and David Thornton.

Their recitals were considered musical high points of the Festival.

York was very proud to sponsor these three world class performances by York artists.

Huge success

Dr. Nicholas Childs, conductor of Black Dyke commented: "The Festival was a huge success for the brass bands with imaginative programmes featuring stunning performances from some of the world's finest bands and soloists. The creative prowess of Richard Marshall and David Thornton was showcased in Black Dyke's programme, as they delighted the audience with stunning solo performances and individual recitals."

Enjoyable

Richard Marshall added: "At this year’s RNCM Festival of Brass I was privileged to play new music from the pen of Wilby, Graham, Gregson and the Vinter classic 'Spectrum'. This proved again to be a most enjoyable experience. Being a featured soloist with Black Dyke is always a thrill, as is presenting a recital at one of this country’s premier music colleges. I can only conclude by saying “Here's looking
forward to next year."

New instruments

Many players at all levels, from improving players through to top soloists, took the opportunity to play test the Prescience BBb and EEb tubas, euphoniums and baritones that were being shown for the first time at a major UK brass event.

Positve reports

There were many positive playing reports and the specialist retailers also exhibiting at the event appreciated the build quality and finish of the new range.

Proud

York is very proud to be a partner of the RNCM Festival of Brass. We thank Paul Hindmarsh and Philip Biggs for organising such a wonderful world-class brass event.

We are looking forward to the RNCM Festival of Brass in 2010.

Advert: Cory Band choose York

York LogoYork Brass Instruments are the instruments of choice for the Cory Band.

Cory, the number 1 ranked band in the world, has announced that they will play exclusively on York Brass Instruments, with the announcement of the appointment of York Brass Instruments as 'Instruments of Choice' for the future replacement of their cornets, tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums and tubas.

The band is already playing on York 'Eminence' cornets and will receive their 'Eminence' euphoniums and 'Preference' baritones within the next few days.

By the time of the 125th Anniversary Concert in June, the band will have a full set of York Brass Instruments in their hands.

For York, the Managing Director of Schreiber & Keilwerth, Dr. Armin Eckert, told FABB: "We are delighted about the co-operation with the Cory Band. World class musicians like David Childs and Owen Farr from the Cory Band have been a part of the successful York story from the first day. We are looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership. We congratulate Cory on being the current number one on the Brass Band World Ranking and we wish them a successful 125th Anniversary Year."

Dr. Robert Childs, a York performing artist and ‘4BR Conductor of the year 2008’ commented: "It is a pleasure to increase the cooperation with York Brass Instruments. Our principals are heavily involved in the further development of the instruments."

Additionally, Cory is pleased to announce that they have appointed Trevada Music as their 'Dealers of Choice' for the provision and maintenance of their instruments.

FABB gears up for 2009

FABB logoFollowing the success of the inaugural Federation of Australasian Brass Bands (FABB) 2008 Australasian Open Festival, plans for the 2009 event and beyond are well underway.

The Date

Next years Festival will fall on the weekend of 23-25 October 2009, the same date as the Labour Day long weekend in New Zealand.

Rick Casagrande said, “I have had so many positive comments from bands people and members of the commercial audience that attended this year that it was imperative that the Festival continue and for it to develop itself further so that bands have an opportunity to play at the highest level.”

The Invitees

The FABB has revealed the list of invited bands for 2009. They are:

Back to 'The Tweed'

The venue, Twin Towns Resorts and Hotels at Tweed Heads on the Queensland New South Wales Border, has been secured again for 2009 whilst a suitable venue in New Zealand is hoped to be found for 2010.

Money, challenge and entertainment

The existing two events, and their substantial prizemoney, will continue as the Australasian Open Champion, determined by a set Test Piece, and the Australasian Open Entertainment Champion, a 30 minute concert programme.

The panel of adjudicators is expected to be announced early in 2009, along with details of the Test piece.

Marching beach style

As well, FABB organisers are looking towards a bigger event next year with the hope that the beach marching event gets off the ground.

FABB Chairman Rick Casagrande said, “Drill adjudicators will not be required as anyone found marching in step may find themselves disqualified”.

Players will only need to bring mouthpieces to this event. Every band will play on the same set of old instruments so that players 'real' instruments may be protected from the salt air environment.

Board shorts and flower shirts will be mandatory uniforms.

Greenmount Beach some 120 metres from the Twin Towns venue will be the location for this event, after which the beach party will start.

Something to look forward to!
